Lines & Wrinkles

From the age of twenty-five, the rate of collagen synthesis in the body starts to slow down. With less collagen to support the skin, elastin fibres break down, reducing skin resilience. Additionally, the skin starts producing less hyaluronic acid which allows the skin to retain water.

By the time we are in our forties, the skin has lost firmness, spring, and moisture, and fine lines and wrinkles have usually developed, which tend to be most prominent in the areas where there is constant muscle movement, such as the forehead, and around the eyes and mouth.

The decline in skin elasticity and the effect of gravity contributes to the appearance of heavy eyelids, a poorly-defined jawline and noticeable loss of volume in the mid-section of the face. Lifestyle factors, such as smoking, poor diet and regular exposure to the sun’s UV rays exacerbate this process by accelerating the breakdown of collagen and elastin.
